MEKO free Anti-Skinning Agents

SiSiB® MEKO-Free Anti-Skinning Agents are specialty additives developed for alkyd and oxidative curing coating systems to prevent surface skin formation during storage while supporting modern environmental and regulatory requirements. Traditionally, methyl ethyl ketoxime (MEKO) has been widely used in solvent-based coatings as an effective anti-skinning agent. However, increasing regulatory pressure in the European Union has accelerated the transition toward low-MEKO and MEKO-free technologies.

Under the EU CLP Regulation, MEKO has been classified as a suspected carcinogen (Carc. 2, H351), leading to stricter labeling and handling requirements. As a result, coating manufacturers and raw material suppliers are increasingly seeking alternative anti-skinning technologies for decorative paints, industrial coatings, wood coatings, and other oxidative curing systems.

SiSiB® PB2002 and SiSiB® PB2019 are key products within the SiSiB® MEKO-Free Anti-Skinning Agent portfolio.

SiSiB® PB2002, also known as Methyl Isobutyl Ketoxime (MIBKO, CAS 105-44-2), is an effective anti-skinning agent for oil-based, alkyd, and epoxy ester coating systems. It provides good storage stability and helps reduce premature surface curing during transportation and storage. PB2002 is also an important intermediate for low-MEKO silicone crosslinking systems and specialty silane applications.

SiSiB® PB2019, also known as MPKO (2-Pentanone Oxime, CAS 623-40-5) or Methyl Propyl Ketoxime, is another alternative anti-skinning agent developed for modern oxidative curing coatings. It offers good compatibility with alkyd and epoxy ester systems while supporting reduced-MEKO formulation strategies. PB2019 is also used as a specialty intermediate in silicone and coating chemistry applications.
