As the number of segments changes, molecular weight increases and viscosity increases, hydrophilic silicone oils can have various viscosities ranging from 0.65 centimeters to millions of centimeters. If low viscosity hydrophilic silicone oil is to be obtained, acidic clay can be used as a catalyst and the telomerization reaction can be carried out at 180°C, or sulfuric acid can be used as a catalyst and the telomerization reaction can be carried out at low temperature, which produces highly viscous hydrophilic silicone oils or sticky substances that can be alkaline.
Hydrophilic silicone oil has excellent heat resistance, electrical insulation, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, physiological inertness and small surface tension. Hydrophilic silicone oils are insoluble in water, methanol, ethylene glycol and ethoxyethanol. It is miscible with benzene, dimethyl ether, methyl ethyl ketone, carbon tetrachloride or kerosene. Slightly soluble in acetone, dioxane, ethanol and ethanol. It has a small vapor pressure, high flash and flash points, and a low freezing point.
